Marketing Lesson From Beavis & Butthead

So, I went out to the kitchen to get some lunch and flipped on the TV to catch up on a little news.  Political news more than celebrity gossip or car chases..but anyway..

What came on was MTV with Beavis and Butthead.  I have a couple teenagers that like to watch the music videos with their breakfast before they go to skool.

I didn’t change the channel right away.  As a matter of fact it was probably a good 20 minutes before I came out of my trance from these two meatheads.  I think I even watched it until the end.  Why?

I had to ask myself this because how could I get sucked into that for that long?  I asked my subconscious to come up with the answer.  I knew there had to be a marketing lesson in there.

So, here is what I came up with.  In Joe Vitale’s Hypnotic Writing, he references comic books and writing to a person’s inner child.  In this case it was my inner adolescence.  I know.  It may sound ridiculous, but that is what was happening.  I was going back to my college days when I watched these two goons and getting a laugh out of them.  I caught myself laughing again.

In any case, here is the takeaway.  In your marketing, write simply and to your reader’s inner child.  Make it so that everyone who reads it can understand what you are talking about.  Take responsibility for your communication skills and open the floodgates to your marketing success.  This isn’t a lottery ticket.  It is a skill.  It is learnable.  It being ‘marketing’.

Another point was the story.  They were telling a story.  I had to see what was going to happen to these two knuckleheads with their plan.  So many things could have come about from what they were up to.  There was no way they were going to succeed.  So, I had to see if they were going to beat each other up or if they were going to get knocked around by someone else.  The conflict and the drama.  It is hard for me to say this, but it was compelling.  I was like the college kid again back in the day just lost for those 20 minutes.

Here is the second takeaway.  Tell a story.  As simple as that is, it is definitely a skill worth learning in your marketing efforts.  People are hard wired for stories and mastering this will have you sipping Corona’s on the beach.

All The Best,

The One Essential Element Needed To Market Online

I see a lot of folks trying to do online marketing for one thing or another and think back to when I was just starting.  It sure can be overwhelming.  This post isn’t just for network marketing, but for anyone wanting to generate serious income online.

You can put up posts on social media with a link to your company page.  That might get a click or two.  In our fast paced society, though, you have seconds to actually get someone to do something.  Literally seconds, before you lose them.  My attention span is just not that long and I know I am not that different.  I have some OCD tendencies, but pretty normal otherwise.

So, you had your visitor for a second then lost them.

Put up a ‘page’ on facebook to get a ‘like’.  Excellent.  You are building a brand.  Offer some information on your page, but then what.  You are relying on the visitor to take the initiative and ‘buy’.  That is pretty tough.

Again, you don’t have much time to build up the know, like and trust factor.  It’s like I am on my way to someplace else and I really don’t feel like stopping and really jumping in to say hello.

However, if you give me just a little something in exchange for my email, I might be up for that.

People still do check email:

There is your chance to build a relationship, through email.  Here you can market to this specific audience that has expressed interest in what you have.

But there has to be a mechanism for them to express their interest to you.  Otherwise, how will you know who it was if they didn’t call.

As a golfer/golf fan, just now as I am typing this I got an email from the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.  I went there last year to watch the pros.  They are offering a discount to come again next year.

So, where am I going?   You need a ‘capture’ page for your visitors.  If you are not capturing their contact information when they visit, you are flushing your efforts down the toilet.  Especially if you are paying for advertising.  Your time is even more valuable since you cant get that back.  So, if you are putting up info without any ability to get email addresses, keep on modeling the gerbil on the treadmill.  You are spinning circles around yourself whether you know it or not.

Blogging is another way of building your brand.  But again, you are building ice sculptures in July without the ‘capture’.

What do you do with this contact information once you get it from your visitors, you ask?  Stay tuned..

Mark Hoverson’s Irresistible Info-Marketing Blueprint by Magnetic Sponsoring

So, I am just chilling in my room after getting to Disney for the LTD II Event.  I am a little irked that I checked my bag with their shuttle service.  I wanted to play some golf, but it is way past the window before it gets dark.

It would be nice to just get my stuff to freshen up though.  So, I decided to lie down for a few minutes and decompress after all the travel.  The next thing I know the door is opening and I hear “Hello?”

Excitedly, I say “Come In”, because I am expecting my bag.  But it’s not the shuttle service delivering my bag.  It is someone else, with her bags wanting to get into ‘her’ room!

“Hey, what are you doing in my room?” she says.  I found that to be a little amusing, considering I had been there for a few hours.
Long story short, they checked her into my room and apparently delivered my bag to another room.

So, we started to get acquainted while we waited for them to sort things out.  She asked me, “So, do you have a blog?” I said, “Sure”

“I just got mine up.  Man, was that a lot of work!” she said with a big exhale of relief.  “It takes so much time, and with three kids, it is a real challenge.”  With kids of my own, I could certainly relate.  Without a Step-By-Step Guide it can be a real challenge.  It is also why staying focused and committed to what you want is so important.

As she was talking about some of the challenges, I said to myself “Boy, I am glad that I bypassed the frustration and got some one on one training in this area.  I could’ve figured that stuff out on my own, but it would have taken a LOT longer.”  I didn’t get a chance to ask her before she left if she had a capture page.

My point of this story is that we all have a learning curve.  It is just up to us whether we want to ACCELERATE that curve or not.  We can purchase knowledge, and in essence purchase time, our most valuable resource.

For a while, it only seemed like there was a bunch of scams going on.  Get rich doing this, get rich doing that.  How I got beyond that is another story.

However, I will pass along to you that after meeting the guys behind Magnetic Sponsoring’s Irresistible Info-Marketing Blueprint at Live The Dream II, you can feel secure in taking that plunge.  Especially with their money back guarantee.

Matt Crystal, Magnetic Sponsoring’s Operations Director, is a really cool dude.  He was happy to share a few insider details to the offer and some behind the scenes tools they use.  He put the pages together himself instead of using any other platforms for the launch. I asked him “why?” He simply said, “’x’ platform wasn’t ready to be released in the first place and we wanted to do some things that are meant specifically for what we want to do.”

Tim Erway is just as real as they come.  He’s not one to just put on a front to ‘impress’.  When the f bombs fly, he makes no apologies.

As for Mark Hoverson, if he isn’t careful, he’ll just cry on stage.  Watch the video inside their offer with him and his son: http://virtualcommllc.informationblueprint.com/  There you get to see what I am talking about.

I was listening to Mark give his presentation on the Magnetic Sponsoring’s Irresistible Info-Marketing Blueprint and filled out the order form before he was even done.  The way he was explaining the program, it seemed as though he was giving me the green light to round third and head for the plate.

I went back to their table and handed it to Matt.   He chuckled and said, “You don’t even know how much it is!”  I just shook my head and said “Whatever.. you gave me a couple hints yesterday..”

“Oh yea that’s right!  Well, Mark is taking the order forms from the stage.  Go up and hand it to him Now!”  he urged.

I started walking.  I looked back, gave him a nod and kept going-headed for home.

When I got to the stage, I simply handed the order form to Mark without an interruption.  When he finished his thought to the crowd, he focused for a moment on what I had actually handed him.  He then laughingly said out loud in a voice that was meant more for himself than for the audience, “haha..he doesn’t even know how much it is..haha..”  Then he asked those listening “ok, Do you want to know how much it is?…”

Funny how you know when something is right.  Like when you are climbing a steep hill and suddenly someone from above is dangling a rope on your head urging you to grab on.

I knew it didn’t matter, because what I was going to be able to implement was going to be far greater than whatever he wanted to charge me for his Irresistible Info-Marketing Blueprint.
